Mike's story

Mike's story

The day Mike turned 18, he became a father to twins.
But, tragically, one baby died at birth and the other passed away aged five. It had a devastating impact on Mike. He spiralled out of control, and a series of mental health crises and addiction battles led to him living on London’s streets and attempting suicide.

“I was horrible. I didn’t care who I hurt, what I stole or what happened,” said Mike. But recently, following the death of a close friend, Mike was invited to The Bridge Church, Battersea, meeting in a London City Mission centre. He came along, met our missionary Martin, and started attending our weekly meal and Bible study event.

“One day, someone in the group said that with God, you are never alone,” said Mike. “It really struck me. I had a feeling that someone had gently put a reassuring hand on my back. And I knew for sure that faith in Jesus was real.”

Today, Mike’s church is like his family – and he knows that when Jesus returns, he’ll be reunited with those he’s lost. “I’ve gained a Father as well as a brother in Jesus. It’s like being born again, literally.”
